It is not a minute too long nor a minute too short. At times, atmosphericĪnd ethereal, and at other times intense and rocking. The title track of Close to The Edge is one of the more perfect epics ever committed to record. ' Siberian Kahatru' is the driving, rockier track of the three, although as I have written before, I preferred it done live.Ĭheck out the superb version from 'Yessongs.' This album is worth owning just for that one track alone. And to my mind, they never bettered it live. Track or Siberian Kahatru(they would better that one live), but the stately 'And You and I.' That is one track where the All I can add is that the standout track for me is not the title There isn't much that I can add to most of the positive reviews that have already been posted and there are reasonsįor all these praises. This is definitely an interesting album and definitely one worth checking out if you like more experimental music. But the album alsoįeels like a sort of 7 stages of grief in it's sound where some songs sound like they are sad, in denial, angry, and soon, accepting. It really feels like a album for the dead and for those beyond the grave. It also has a really pretty experimental edge to it in Grief like sound to it (probably enhanced after the death of John Balance). One thing I have noticed with the album is that it had a very morbid and almost I didn't know what to expectįrom the album, but I was eager to find out. I thought, why not, how about I listen to something new for a change. But on one day someone on Discord recommended this album to me since I I have heard of them and I definitely seen their album covers, but I neverĪctually listened to their albums, at least not fully. I have never actually listened to any works of Coil.
